Every year, I find myself wanting to display a whole new look for the holidays. In particular, I would love to go with a more 'natural, folksy' sort of Christmas theme this year, but it's just not going to happen. For one thing, I'm not about to spend the money it would take for a full set of new decorations. Tougher though, is the idea of not displaying the ornaments and do-dads my family has used for years. They have become tradition and something would seem amiss if I didn't put up the same decor each year. On the other hand, I know people who go for a new look each year.
What's your take? Do live to create a new look each holiday season? Or would it seem like a crime to ditch your Spode this year? I would love to know! And while we're at it, do you have a favorite piece of decor or holiday tradition?

I would like a new look, too, every year but I can’t bring myself to throw out what I’ve used in the past! Instead, I wait for the sales AFTER the holidays to nab new pieces and then add them onto the tree to enjoy for a little while 😉

I was thinking about your comment when I was in JoAnn's today. Mentally, I took note of some things I hope go to a deep discount after Christmas! : ) Of course, I might need to look for some more containers to keep it in while I'm at it since I can't seem to get rid of stuff!

I always hang the Christmas pickle up, whether we’re having my nieces and nephews over or not, I love it.

You know .,,, for so many years I keep thinking I need to buy a pickle. Its a German tradition and I'm half German, so I really should! And yes, the memories of loved ones and special times just can't sit in a box through a Christmas.

I use the same decorations each year but I do let my kids add one new piece each year whether it's an ornament or decoration to hang up!! Luckily I only have a 9,7,5,&1 yr old so not too many decorations LOL and my favorite tradition is letting my little ones open one gift Christmas Eve then snuggling up in bed reading 'Twas the night before Christmas and after they fall asleep I get to enjoy my apple cider toddy and play santa it's one of my favorite moments each year!! Happy Holidays 🎅⛄🎄❄️

We do the Christmas Eve gift, too! I love it! My family did that when I was little ... my Aunt would always give us a book ,.,. and I do that with my kids. It also works nicely because Christmas Eve was always more important to my husband's family and Christmas Day to mine, so we celebrate each equally. My kids are teens ... which only means I wind up staying up later and later until they are asleep to sneak their stockings in their rooms. There has been a ton of eye rolling over getting to bed before Santa comes for years now ... but they sure do like having the stocking in the morning!

I bake cookies with my kids while listening to christmas music every year! We make cookie trays for family, friends, and neighbors. We also do the same tradition with christmas eve and christmas day. Me, my husband, and our 4 kids also go pick out a real tree and we decorate the inside and outside of our house together.

I like a classic Christmas when to comes to the tree. Themed trees are very pretty, but I personally love my little mish-mash of all different kinds of ornaments. Some are fancy, some are ones I've had since I was a kid, some are big, some are super tiny. But I love having them all on there.

I agree wholeheartedly! A mish-mashed tree is the best! They pretty much reflect the personalities in your family. I love putting up old ornaments like Thomas the Tank Engine because it reminds me of how crazy over that my son was when he was four. Stuff like that.

One of our traditions is that we always add one handmade ornament to the tree every year. It's always a lot of fun.

Each year we basically decorate the same way but try to aldosterone incorporate something new. The new could be a new ornament for the tree, a new outside decoration or anew piece for the Christmas village. It's always good to reminisce about the different things we did growing up in hopes that some of those traditions will be passed down amongst the kids. Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays to all!

Yes! Sometimes ornaments remind us of who we and are family members are deep down. I put up the ballet dancer ornaments my parents gave me when i was little and took dance lessons and even though I haven't done that in sooooo long, it reminds me that the spirit of a dancer is still in me. :)

I use the same decorations but add a new piece each year. Our traditions include driving around to see the Christmas lights.

I keep decorations til they fall apart. I am a creature of habit. Old school all the way.

Nothing should be more traditional then Christmas, as far as I am concerned. It is the most wonderful and amazing time of year. Families come together from afar, everyone is joyous and happy. Sitting around the Christmas dinner table, with your loved ones, watching the little ones playing with their new toys etc...Like the ole carol goes..."Its the Most Wonderful Time of the Year"

I don't think my Kids would let me change anything about our Christmas traditions... I tried to put the tree in a new spot and the kids lost it lol

I always like keeping with the same traditions for as long as I can. I decorate the tree with my grandmother every year. It’s a smaller tree that stays on the same table every year due to our very lovable/semi-destructive cats🙂

The nostalgia of Christmas is my favorite part - as much as I'd love to try new things each year, I love having my tree in the same spot and decorating it each year after Thanksgiving while listening to Christmas music with my husband.
